NDP candidate for Edmonton-Whitemud

Rakhi Pancholi for Edmonton-Whitemud
Serving our diverse community for a progressive Alberta.

About Me

I currently practice law at an Alberta-based law firm and have spent the last 13 years in Edmonton building my career, growing my family and contributing to the community. I was born in Ontario to parents from India and Tanzania who settled in Edmonton. I was raised in Edmonton’s Southwest and have chosen to raise my family here. My husband is an Assistant Principal at an Edmonton high school and we have two young children and two big dogs.

I have extensive public service experience, specifically in the areas of providing legal advice to ministries, developing and drafting legislation and public policy, and negotiating agreements on behalf of the Government of Alberta.

I studied at the University of Alberta and later received a law degree from the University of Toronto. I articled at a Bay Street law firm and after completing a human rights internship in South Africa, moved back home to Edmonton. My work primarily focuses on labour and employment, education, privacy, constitutional, and human rights law.

I’m currently the Vice Chair of the Education Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association and sit on the Board of Directors of ParityYEG, an Edmonton-based multipartisan organization promoting gender parity in politics.

I have regularly volunteered with legal organizations such as the Edmonton Community Legal Centre and Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF), as well as a local animal rescue organization, Humane Animal Rescue Team (HART).

Why I’m Running

I was raised in Edmonton’s Southwest and have chosen to raise my family here. I have deep roots in this city and share your community’s vision for a prosperous, progressive and inclusive Alberta. You are my friends, colleagues and neighbours — I care about the same things that you care about. As members of a community, we all have an obligation to each other and the best way I know to fulfill this responsibility is to represent you in the Legislature. I am someone who will listen and work tirelessly to respond to your needs and concerns.

I empathize with Albertans’ current fiscal realities and I want you to know that I will fight to protect Alberta’s resources and its people. Over the last four years I have seen Rachel Notley fight for Albertans with integrity, dedication and a long-term vision. This means supporting what Albertans have built, investing in the ingenuity of its people, and creating a stable, diverse and sustainable economy.

As a mother of two, the Alberta that Jason Kenney talks about is not the Alberta that I want for my kids. It is regressive, it is backwards, it is divisive. It pits us against each other. It focuses on slashing the things that we pride ourselves on in this province — our education system, our health care and our environment. It is, in my view, not a vision at all.

My Top 5 Priorities

With your vote, and with Rachel Notley’s leadership, I am ready to work and fight hard for a future-focused Alberta. This means:

I need your help!

We have set the course for a future that is for all Albertans, not just a select few. But we need your help to make sure we keep moving forward

Your time makes a difference too!

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Rakhi over the last number of years and know that she will bring her expertise as an education lawyer to ensure that students, staff, and families can be successful in our community. She shares our values and will ensure that decisions are made for the common good and that seniors, those in need of health care, or the vulnerable are advocated for. With her deep ties in southwest Edmonton, as a professional and a parent, Rakhi understands our community and will be a strong voice for our community.

It is important that we ensure we elect a candidate with the education, experience and professional expertise to get results for our community. Rakhi is that voice.
